70 years ago I used to spend my school holidays at Johnny Carter's where my dad, Tim Bridger, managed the works office. The office building is still next to the road and was a plumbers office last time I passed. I used to drive the tugs sometimes, they had two, both named after Mr Reid's daughters. Mr Reid and Mr Schofield were co owners being Mr Carter's sons in law. When the weather was wet I would cadge a lift in one of the lorries delivering sand etc my favourite being the old ERF, of pre-war vintage that used to tow trailers. Happy days.
