Dabo Downey was my father's best friend, I called him uncle Dabo. My father's name was Dennis Carter. They worked together as beachcombers on Winchelsea beach. I remember visiting uncle Dabo and his father and sisters in the 1950s when I was a child twice a year every year while on holiday from Yorkshire I would stay with his sisters while mum and dad and uncle Dabo went for a drink in a pub that I think was called the Robin Hood. I still have a necklace he sent me for my birthday. I remember coming home one day finding my dad in tears with a letter in his hand saying that uncle Dabo had passed away. I am delighted to have found this photo on your website. Many thanks. Gillian Baker.
