Eric Ravilious
I am interested in an artist called Eric Ravilious who visited Rye in 1938 and painted a number of watercolours of the harbour (and also the pub called the William the Conqueror). The photo is one of the artist's paintings and wondered if you might be able to identify the three buildings shown. I am self publishing a book on the artist and would be very grateful for any help you might be able to offer. Tim Mainstone. (compare with picture #28)
There is one more picture by Ravilious showing a view of the harbour from the inside of one of the bedrooms at the William the Conqueror. It would be interesting to find out if anyone knows who owned the pub in the late 1930's and how much it cost to stay in old money. Also the name of the harbourmaster in 1938 would be useful.
Picture Added on 18 August 2011.
