The Martello Tower a postcard

The PDF document is "Dennis Manning - a sentinel of Rye Harbour". An account from Peter Manning of the Coast Blockade at Rye Harbour from 1826 to 1829 - see comment below.
Picture Added on 24 July 2006.

My G-G-Gfather Dennis Manning, just in his twenties, was stationed in the Coast Blockade at Rye Harbour from 1826 to 1829. I can imagine him looking over the parapit on a grey and cold November morning, watching out for smugglers running their illegal goods.

Added by Peter Manning on 29 November 2006.
