It is nice to see a picture of my grandmother Florence Doust, wife of James DOUST who owned the Rye Harbour Garage. My family lived in the village until 1954 when we moved to Canada to live. My mother is Joan, the oldest member of three children of James and Florence DOUST.

I am interested in history of Saunders family at Rye Harbour; believe related to Hastings Saunders family, oldest records I have relate to Jack Saunders' family, Rye. He was a bargeman mid 1800s. Information welcome and happy to exchange!

assume TF Saunders must be Thomas Frank born 1899?
Is Graham his son?
Saunders family connection - my Mum is a Saunders.

Hello. Yes, I can certainly identify three of the people in the photograph. My grandmother (on my mothers side) was one of the many Saunders who lived in Rye Harbour. The data I have on the Saunders of Rye Harbour is fairly extensive, with many birth years and marriage & death dates recorded. I won't outline it all here but can certainly provide it to those interested (upon request).
Thomas Frank Saunders (shown 4th from left in front row) is my grand uncle (brother to my maternal grandmother. Graham (shown 5th from left in back row) is Thomas Frank's son (Graham also has a sister Deiedre - not shown). Mrs F. Caister (3rd from left in front row) is my grand aunt (nee Jessie Victoria Saunders who married Frank Caister)- so, Thomas Frank and Jessie Victoria are brother & sister who have 9 other siblings - they are 1. My maternal grandmother, Bessie Ellen, 2. Emily Harriett, 3.Frederick Richard 4.Ena Lucy 5. Charles Edward, 6. James Alfred 7. Elizabeth Alice 8. Maud Beatrice & 9. John Sharpey Saunders (Jr). All these 11 children are from John Sharpey Saunders (Snr)b.1867 d.02 Apr 1951 & Ellen (nee Cutting) b. 1870 d. 1948. John Sharpey Saunders (Snr) parents were Thomas Sydney Saunders b. 1842 & Emily (maiden name as yet unknown) b. 1845.There is also a list of John Sharpey Saunders (Snr) 5 other siblings.
I have photos of John S Saunders (Snr) & Ellen (taken in Rye Harbour) and some of his sons and daughters. My maternal grandmother, Ellen Bessie was married in Holy Spirit Church in Rye Harbour to Sydney Rawson Morgan on 30th April, 1910 and had only one child, my mother Hilda Ethel.
I look forward to seeing if this fits with anyone else's family trees.
Regards, Vince
